Most sustainable packaging forces a choice. Recycling alone does not close the loop. Only about 9% of the world's plastic waste is actually recycled (OECD Global Plastics Outlook). The rest is landfilled, incinerated, or mismanaged, and ordinary HDPE that escapes containment fragments and persists for a very long time. BioBottles® are recyclable through existing HDPE streams, and they are also made with PlasticIQ® technology, which is engineered to help reduce persistent microplastic formation if a bottle does escape into the environment. That is not an argument for throwing bottles away. It is a safety margin for the fraction that slips past collection no matter how good a program is.

## PlasticIQ®, in plain terms

PlasticIQ® makes dumb plastics smarter. In normal use and storage, a BioBottle® performs identically to a standard HDPE bottle: same shelf stability, same shipping behavior, same look. If it is exposed to sustained oxygen, heat, and UV outside containment, the catalyst initiates controlled oxidation that lowers the polymer's molecular weight so the chains eventually become small enough for microbes to consume, rather than lingering as persistent fragments. It is not an enzyme, and it does not change how the bottle fills or feels.

## Recyclable, and tested to the recyclers' own benchmark

Here is the part that matters if you have to defend the choice. The old way to answer "is it recyclable?" was to take the manufacturer's word for it. The new way is to test the finished bottle against the recycling industry's own protocol and put the numbers on record.

A third-party laboratory, AIMPLAS, ran the actual BioBottles® rigid HDPE bottle through the Association of Plastic Recyclers' Critical Guidance Protocol HDPE-CG-01, the benchmark US recyclers use to decide whether a new package belongs in their stream. The finding: no disconformities at blend inclusion rates up to 50%.

Tensile strength at 50% inclusion measured 27.6 MPa, matching the conventional control at 27.6 MPa, a delta of zero, according to AIMPLAS report AST-23-203, 4 December 2023.

In plain terms, "inclusion" means the share of the recycled batch made up of BioBottles® material. Even at half the batch, far above anything a real municipal stream would ever see, the recycled plastic held up.

- **FDA food-contact compliant** under 21 CFR §§177.1520, 178.2010, and 175.300.

- **ASTM D6954 Tier 1-3 verified.** ASTM D6954 is the standardized test framework that measures how far this kind of plastic actually oxidizes and biodegrades.
